Kobiton Plans and Pricing

Product Questions

What’s the difference between real devices and emulators/simulators?

Real devices are just that, actual physical hardware running mobile operating systems like iOS and Android.

Emulators and simulators are both virtual devices, meaning they mimic the operating system and behavior of a device.

Why should I care about real devices over virtual devices?

Simple. Your customers don’t use emulators or simulators in their daily lives, which means your testing needs to be as close to the end user environment as possible to ensure a perfect experience.

What is a testing minute?

A unit of measurement for the duration of a manual or automated test execution.

What if I exceed my plan’s minute limit?

No problem! The short answer is that most plans allow you to keep testing without interruption.
You have two options:

Option 1: Purchase add-on minutes. If you don’t consume all of them, don’t worry! These minutes roll over to the next billing cycle if unused. You also have the option to automatically renew your additional minutes with each new billing cycle. This is our best recommendation for price-conscious teams.

Option 2: Automatically switch to overage minutes to continue testing even after you’ve exceeded the testing minutes allotted in your plan. However, these minutes are charged at a slightly higher price.

To avoid overage charges we encourage you to purchase add-on minutes as needed.

What if I need to add more minutes?

We recommend you start by purchasing add-on minutes to set predictable benchmarks for test minute consumption based on your operation. Once you feel confident that you consistently need more minutes and/or more sophisticated features, we encourage you to upgrade to another plan.

What are parallel test sessions?

Refers to the number of real devices being occupied simultaneously for both manual and automated test sessions. Limits on parallel test sessions are applied at the account level.

Who is a user?

Anyone within your account that has access to the Kobiton portal to run tests or view results.

What is scriptless automation and how does it work?

Perform a manual test on one device and automatically execute that same test on other devices in the background without writing any test scripts. Learn more here.

What are visual assertions?

Easily declare and test expected vs actual results when executing scriptless or scripted test automation to quickly identify visual discrepancies in your app. Choose how to handle each failed visual assertion to accommodate different behavior across devices

What are text assertions?

Similar to visual assertions, easily declare benchmarks for your scriptless or scripted test automation and quickly identify text discrepancies in your app. Choose how to handle each failed text assertion to accommodate different behavior across devices.

What are Appium exports?

To make test automation authoring easier and faster, Kobiton allows you to generate Appium test scripts from actions taken during a manual session and export them for execution against your desired environment.

What if I need more Appium exports?

If you are in need of more Appium exports and/or more sophisticated features, we encourage you to upgrade to another plan in order to meet your needs and set predictable consumption benchmarks based on your operation.

What is a device slot?

A unit of measurement for the number of simultaneous local, private, or fully on-prem devices that can be connected to the Kobiton Cloud. For example, if you have 5 local devices at your office but only 3 device slots, you can have 3 on the system and replace with the other 2 as needed.

What’s the difference between local devices, private devices, and complete on-premises deployment?

Local devices are devices that you own and manage in your physical work environment (or office). With local device slots, you can connect your devices to the Kobiton Cloud, alongside our cloud of public devices, for centralized logging and control across your entire organization.

Private devices are dedicated to your organization for exclusive use and maintained by Kobiton in our data centers. We procure devices on your behalf and manage it from there. These devices allow for secure VPN access and unlimited testing minutes.

Complete on-premises deployment is best for sensitive development environments where 100% on-site deployment behind a firewall is required.

You can read more about our deployment options here.

What if I need additional local device slots?

Local device slots are not offered in our self-service packages. You’ll need to contact our Enterprise sales team to discuss custom packaging.

What if I need additional private devices?

Private devices are not offered in our self-service packages. You’ll need to contact our Enterprise sales team to discuss custom packaging.

What if I need additional fully on-premises devices?

What is script migration?

We’ll take any of your test scripts written in proprietary languages from other vendors and migrate them to open-standard Appium and Selenium for use on Kobiton and anywhere else you choose.

What do you mean by advanced analytics?

Deep data insights and actionable reporting to drive testing and development initiatives across the enterprise. More than your average test results. Contact our sales team to learn more.

Does Kobiton integrate with other tools?

Security Question

Will my data be private and safe?

Of course! Many of our customers operate in highly regulated environments that require best-in-class data security and privacy controls. You can learn more about Kobiton’s privacy and security policies here.

How long will my test data be accessible on the Kobiton platform?

For most plans, historical data from your test sessions is stored for 1 year from the date of execution. However, we only keep your data for 90 days in the Start up package.

If you need access to test data more than a year old you should contact our Enterprise sales team to discuss custom packaging.

Do any of the plans have setup fees?

No.

Are there any overage fees?

Yes. To minimize disruption to your operation, we allow you to continue testing even after you’ve exceeded the testing minutes allotted in your plan. However, these minutes are charged at a slightly higher price.

To avoid overage charges we encourage you to purchase add-on minutes as needed.

Do I have to sign a long term contract?

It depends on the plan you select. Some plans offer monthly, others are only offered on an annual basis.

Can I upgrade, downgrade, or switch plans at any time?

For upgrades, the changes typically take effect immediately; for downgrades, the changes take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

How does add-on pricing work?

Most add-ons are good for one billing cycle and expire the day your primary plan renews, unless you elect to auto-renew the add-ons.

However, add-on minutes and Appium exports are a bit unique in that they never expire. If you don’t consume all of them, don’t worry! These minutes roll over to the next billing cycle if unused.

Refunds & Cancellations

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

Sure! Cancelling doesn’t remove your account and you can reactivate anytime. Enterprise plans require speaking with an account manager. We do not offer refunds for unused minutes.

Under what circumstances am I entitled to a refund?

If you suspect you may be a victim of identity theft or credit card fraud, we encourage you to contact us at support@kobiton.com to resolve the issue immediately. However, please note that refunds will be handled on a case by case basis at our discretion.
