Android Setup and Troubleshooting (Legacy devices)

Note: this document presents the setup steps for Legacy devices only. For setting up Android devices to be hosted in Kobiton 4.0 or later, refer to this document.

Setup

From the Play Store, download  Google Chrome on the device

Enable Developer Mode

On Android 4.2 devices 

  1. Go to Settings > Developer Options

  2. Check the USB debugging checkbox

On Android 5.0 devices

  1. Go to Settings and tap Developer Options

  2. Check the USB debugging checkbox

For Android devices that require input Captcha (example: Xiaomi)

  1. Go to Settings > Additional Settings

  2. Tap Developer Options

  3. Enter Captcha

  4. Enable Developer Options

  5. Enable USB debugging

  6. Turn off the Turn on MIUI optimization option

  7. Turn on Install via USB option

Turn off auto-update

The process varies across Android devices, but this is a common workflow:

  1. In the Google Playstore, open Google Play
  2. Tap the hamburger icon on the top-left
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Auto-update apps
  5. To disable automatic app updates, select Do not auto-update apps

  6. Open the Setting app > Software Update

  7. Turn Automatic Updates to Off

Prevent Screen from Sleeping

  1. Activate Developer Mode by tapping on the build number in the About phone menu seven times
  2. Select Stay Awake to keep the device from sleeping

Turn off the Screen Lock setting

  • Go to Settings > Lock screen and security

  • Select None

Turn off "Auto deny apps from auto-starting" on ASUS device

  1. Open the Mobile Manager app

  2. Navigate to Settings

  3. Disable Auto deny apps from auto-starting option

Disable suggestion/prediction text in keyboard

On Samsung devices:

    1. Go to Settings

    2. Select Language and input or Language and keyboard

    3. Under the Keyboards and input methods section, select Samsung keyboard

    4. Turn Predictive text to off.

LG devices

    1. Go to Setting

    2. Select Language and input or Language and keyboard

    3. Find Keyboards and input methods section and select LG Keyboard

    4. Turn Auto-correction to off

  1. Google Nexus devices

    • Go to Setting

    • Tap on Language and input or Language and keyboard

    • Find Keyboards and input methods section

    • Tap on setting of currently using keyboard or default keyboard of the device (Gboard)

    • Tap on Text correction

      • Show suggestion strip

      • Show emoji suggestions

      • Personalized suggestions

      • Auto-correction

      • Auto capitalization

        Uncheck all suggestion and corrections options

         

Change the Settings View Type into List view Type

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Options (if available) and choose List view (if available)

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting guidelines for Android devices

Device works well when we see Register To Cloud or Unregister button

Otherwise, check below problems and corresponding fixing action

Issue - "Allow USB debugging" dialog on Android

Identify problem

  • Desktop App shows label saying "Allow USB debug ..."

  • Double check again by running adb devices from Android SDK

    • Click on gear icon in Desktop App and copy path to Android SDK folder

  • Paste to Terminal app, append path to adb tool /platform-tools/adb devices and run. Expect to see the text unauthorized

Action

  • Get UDID

  • Go to the shelf that contain this device because we must handle this directly

  • Follow below steps

    • Check on "Always allow from this computer"
    • Tap on "Ok" button

For Unknown issues (None of above problem is found) on Android devices

Please do the steps below for fixing

  1. Unplug devices
  2. Restart devices
  3. Revoke developer options
  4. Turn on developer options
  5. Plug devices again
  6. Plug / unplug a few times to see "Allow USB debugging" dialog -> Hit "OK" if exists
  7. Move to Home Screen
